The Jerry Sandusky saga continues as unsealed documents uncovered a troubling alleged conversation between one of the victims and the late Joe Paterno.
When the story of Jerry Sandusky’s sexual abuse of young boys broke in 2008, we were shocked. In 2016, unsettling documents from various lawsuits are still being unearthed. The new evidence unearthed by the Washington Post directly pinpoints the late Joe Paterno, former legendary Penn State head coach, as having knowledge of abuse and doing nothing about it as early as 1976. You can read the full documents here.
An unknown man testified in 2014 that he confronted Paterno in 1976, claiming that Jerry Sandusky had touched and penetrated him as he showered at a Penn State football camp. According to the man, Paterno responded to his complaints by saying, “I don’t want to hear about any of that kind of stuff, I have a football season to worry about” before walking away.
The documents link other Penn State officials and coaches as well, alleging that they had knowledge of Sandusky’s actions. Among those are current coaches Tom Bradley of UCLA and Greg Schiano of Ohio State.
The documents also contain testimony from former Penn State grad assistant Mike McQueary, who alleges that Bradley knew of Sandusky’s actions as early as the 1980’s. One of the men testifying said it was well-known that Sandusky would have several of the boys stay in his room the night before games in Happy Valley, and that multiple other assistant coaches saw Sandusky grooming his victims and said nothing.
