MLB All-Star Game: The Tenors apologize for ‘All Lives Matter’ lyric

The Tenors, who snuck in an “All Lives Matter” reference during “Oh Canada” at the MLB All-Star Game, officially apologize.

While the biggest worry for Canadian baseball fans heading into the MLB All-Star Game had been whether or not Toronto Blue Jays players would get injured, Canadian quartet The Tenors ended up doing something much worse.

Earlier today, during the singing of the Canadian national anthem, a member of The Tenors changed the lyrics of “Oh Canada” to include a reference to “All Lives Matter.” Remigio Pereira was the individual who specifically made the reference while holding up a sign that said “All Lives Matter.” Only shown on the Canadian broadcast, it sent Twitter up in a hellstorm as soon as the video was posted.

Now it appears as though Pereira was acting on his own, as a statement was made by The Tenors through their Twitter account implies he was acting as a “lone wolf.” The Tenors went so far as removing him from the group.

“The Tenors are deeply sorry for the disrespectful and misguided lack of judgment by one member of the group acting as a ‘lone wolf’ today during the singing of the Canadian national anthem at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in San Diego,” the statement reads.

“Embarrassed” is putting it lightly, as many Canadians on Twitter had admonished the band, and Universal Music Canada, for the actions of Pereira. His foolish attempt at grabbing headlines managed to bring hatred from both left-wing and right-wing Canadians; one for spewing hateful rhetoric, and the other for using the Canadian national anthem to spin his own message and make the anthem about himself.

The MLB All-Star Game is currently being broadcast live from San Diego, California, on FOX.
