Free agent power forward Luis Scola is headed to the Brooklyn Nets.
The Brooklyn Nets have had a rough free agency period, as they appeared to lock up two restricted free agents, who would wind up re-signing with their old teams. Tyler Johnson and Allen Crabbe had both agreed to offer sheets with the Nets, only to return to the Miami Heat and Portland Trail Blazers, respectively.
According to The Vertical, the Nets signed free agent power forward Luis Scola on Tuesday, who became the fifth free agent they have come to an agreement with this off-season. Scola, who played for the Toronto Raptors last season, gives the Nets a nice presence on the inside.
Scola had a nice season for the Raptors during the 2015-16 campaign, averaging 8.7 points for the Raptors. In his career, Scola has averaged 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds.
After adding the veteran forward, the Nets have a nice frontcourt of Brook Lopez, Trevor Booker, and Scola.
The Nets are still trying to gain traction since moving to Brooklyn from New Jersey, as they try to develop a rivalry with the New York Knicks. The Knicks added some significant pieces this off-season, including former MVP Derrick Rose, and figure to be one of the top five teams in the Eastern Conference this season.
The biggest splash the Nets have made this off-season is the addition of Jeremy Lin, who captivated New York City during his “Linsanity” campaign. The Nets figure to finish near the bottom of the Eastern Conference this season, but they have added some nice pieces this off-season, and should at least be more competitive than they were last year.
