The San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams will meet in a regular-season game in China in 2018, according to a report.

The NFL schedule for 2018 could include a meeting between the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams, according to a report earlier on Tuesday. While no official date has been set for the matchup, it’s being speculated that this game would be the Rams’ home opener on their 2018 slate. It could also make for a historic first-ever NFL game played in China.

The rumors indicate that this game is going to happen, but the league hasn’t officially confirmed it. According to Sports Business Daily, the NFL VP/Communications Brian McCarthy said, “We have not announced the Rams’ opponent in the event we play a game there. We have said we are exploring playing a game there but nothing is definitive.”

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had previously confirmed that multiple teams showed interest in playing a game in China. It appears that San Francisco and Los Angeles could be the first takers as the league looks to expand its international reach.

Since 2007, there have been NFL games played in London, England, with three games set to be played there in 2016. Among the teams that will compete will be the L.A. Rams on Oct. 23 against the New York Giants at Twickenham Stadium in London.

If the 49ers vs. Rams 2018 game ends up being officially scheduled, it could mark the first time an NFL game has been played during the regular season in China.
