NHL Free Agency Rumors: Shane Doan to sign one-year deal with Arizona Coyotes
According to Craig Morgan of Arizona Sports, forward Shane Doan has agreed to a one-year deal with the Arizona Coyotes.
The Arizona Coyotes went into this offseason not being 100 percent sure about the future of Shane Doan. Would he retire or would he decide to come back on a one-year deal? According to Craig Morgan of Arizona Sports and Today’s Slapshot, Doan has agreed to a one-year deal with the Coyotes.
Doan will be returning for his 21st NHL season. Each of those seasons has been spent with the Coyotes franchise and all but one of those seasons has been in Arizona.
From Arizona Sports:
"No dollar figures have been released, but a source said Doan’s base salary is $2.5 million with a deferred signing bonus and deferred incentives that will bring the deal’s worth to about $5 million."
He will have an average annual value, or cap hit, of $5 million. Doan has played in 1,466 games during his career with 396 goals and 945 points. Last season, he scored 28 goals, his most since the 2008-09 season, and had 47 points in 72 games.
Doan is the franchise leader in games played, goals, points, even strength goals (265), power play goals (125), and game winning goals (69). He won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, given out for leadership and humanitarian contributions, for the 2009-10 season. Doan is a two-time All-Star (2003-04 and 2008-09) and has 15 goals and 28 points in 55 career playoff games. He has served as the Coyotes’ captain since the 2003-04 season.
