The summer of shirtless JR Smith is apparently over, as JR Smith is wearing a shirt at the ESPYS.

JR Smith is an NBA champion, he can do whatever the heck he wants. Unless it’s at the ESPYS or the White House, that is. President Obama asked Smith to wear a shirt when he visited the White House, and apparently ESPN has too.

The Cleveland Cavaliers came back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, bringing home a championship to Cleveland, the epicenter of sports sadness. In the process, LeBron James cemented his legacy, Kyrie Irving became a budding star, and JR Smith celebrated enough for both of them combined. The only shirt Smith was photographed wearing in the week after the Cav’s victory was one that read, “JR For President,” which actually isn’t a bad idea.

For a week, JR Smith lived as few men dared to dream: without any sense of responsibility or discretion. He didn’t do anything illegal or stupid, just stopped wearing shirts everywhere. He’s the champion, why should we not let him live?

That being said, a tux, JR? Come on man, at least wear the shirt of your torso. You spent weeks sticking it to the man, no one is going to hate you for making a little joke at your own expense on the red carpet. Dude, you showed up at the victory parade looking like you just got off the court, only jersey-less. Celebrate this Cavs championship, because who knows when you’ll get another.
