Indianapolis Colts running back Robert Turbin arrested for marijuana
Indianapolis Colts running back Robert Turbin has been cited for marijuana possession, putting his NFL career in jeopardy.
During a routine traffic stop in Logan, Utah, Indianapolis Colts running back Robert Turbin was given a citation when police officers found marijuana in his car. The former Utah State star was not under the influence, so he was allowed to drive away in his vehicle after being pulled over.
Through his Twitter account, Turbin held himself accountable for the situation. He admitted that he made a mistake and said he would not let it happen again. Turbin also reminded his fans that not all reports are accurate.
The Colts have stated that they are aware of the situation, but they are waiting for all of the details to be released before they make a decision. As of right now, it appears Turbin’s place on the team is not in doubt.
Turbin signed with the Colts in March. The team needed someone to provide backup minutes behind Frank Gore, the 33-year-old veteran that is expected to be the starter for Indianapolis next season.
Turbin was back in Utah to host a football camp for youths near his alma mater. That will be a major factor when the Colts decide if they want to punish him or not.
If convicted, Turbin faces six months in prison and a fine of $1,000. The belief is that he will not be required to deal with any of that because lawyers can get that greatly reduced.
During the incident, Turbin had a passenger in the vehicle with him. Police officers stated that the 26-year-old Oakland native was very polite and cooperative.
Turbin has been trying to find a permanent home in the NFL. In his first four seasons in the league, he has played for the Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns. Indianapolis has been looking to build a strong running game so that franchise quarterback Andrew Luck won’t be overworked.
