Calvin Harris throws shade at Taylor Swift via Twitter.
Calvin Harris and Taylor Swift’s break up just got uglier. Calvin took to his Twitter account to call out his ex-girlfriend after her rep confirmed that she wrote his hit song, “This Is What You Came For.”
According to TMZ, Taylor Swift wrote “This Is What You Came For” on her piano at home and recorded it on her iPhone. Swift then sent the song to her then boyfriend Calvin Harris, who loved it. The pair hit the studio and Tay sang the vocals while Calvin did the beat.
However, Swift and Harris thought it would be a bad idea to let the public know they collaborated, believing it would overshadow the song. So, Taylor used an alias on the credits and Calvin released the song with Rihanna, and it became a hit.
The real trouble started the day the song was released. Calvin appeared on the Ryan Seacrest radio show and totally shot down ever working with Taylor.
When Ryan asked, “Will you do a collaboration with your girlfriend?” Calvin responded, “You know we haven’t even spoken about it. I can’t see it happening though.”
Sources reveal that Taylor Swift was hurt and upset by Calvin Harris’ comment, and thought he took it a bit too far. A couple of days later, Taylor hit up the Met Gala where she met her current boyfriend, Tom Hiddleston.
On Wednesday, the truth about the song finally came out. “Taylor Swift wrote ‘This Is What You Came For’ under the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg,” the singer’s rep confirmed to People Magazine, which sent Calvin off the deep end.
Harris quickly took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Taylor confirming she wrote the song that is still tearing up the charts.
"“I figure if you’re happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do,” he tweeted."
Calvin then went on to tweet that Taylor just needed someone new to try to “bury” like she did with Katy Perry, because she’s off tour, and must be bored.
As fans know, Taylor Swift isn’t one to take public criticism without firing back. This could mean that fans will be hearing from her on social media, in an interview, or in a revenge song.
Perhaps the most interesting part of this story is that Taylor owns the rights to “This Is What You Came For,” and could prohibit Calvin from performing the song if she wanted to. Ironically, Harris once wrote a song with his ex-girlfriend Rita Ora, and when they broke up he yanked her right to perform it. Could Karma be catching up to Calvin? It looks like we’ll all have to stay tuned for the latest in the Taylor and Calvin saga.
