Erin Andrews has agreed to a deal that will keep her with FOX Sports, but will take her off the network’s baseball coverage and just do the NFL.
It wasn’t that long ago that the hottest name in sports was someone who had nothing to do with wins and losses on the field. No, I’m not talking about Tim Tebow – I’m talking about sideline reporter and sometime studio host Erin Andrews.
When Andrews made her move from ESPN to FOX several years ago, it made major headlines. Now, Andrews has decided that she is going to stay with the network…but in a reduced role that includes only the NFL:
"“We are thrilled that Erin will continue as our lead sideline reporter on the NFL on FOX’s ‘A-Team’ including our upcoming coverage of Super Bowl LI,” said John Entz, the network’s president of production. “We appreciate Erin’s great contributions to our MLB coverage. With her commitments beyond Fox Sports, we fully support Erin’s decision to focus her role here at FOX on the NFL.”"
We’re not really sure how much it was Andrews’ decision to “focus” on the NFL and how much it had to do with decreased ratings and her fame starting to decrease. Andrews already has given up her college football duties that were part of the arrangement when she moved over from the Worldwide Leader.
Andrews’ decision is the second one this week involving a known sideline reporter. Heather Cox, who recently saw her job as the main sideline reporter for ESPN and ABC’s top college football crew go to Samantha Ponder, will head to NBC and be the sideline reporter for the network’s Thursday Night Football games and other assignments with the network.
