The 2016 MLB trade deadline gets closer as teams look to lock up deals for the latest season.
In 2016, the MLB trade deadline will take place a day later than it normally does, as August 1 this year’s date as opposed to the July 31 date that stood for years. Some of the players who could be on the move include Jay Bruce of the Cincinnati Reds and Jonathan Lucroy of the Milwaukee Brewers. In addition, a trio from New York that includes Andrew Miller, Aroldis Chapman and Carlos Beltran could be among those headed for new teams.
Back in May the Angels and Braves swapped pitchers as Joules Chacin and Adam McCreery found themselves on new teams. A few more bullpens may be among those getting switched up a bit as well. Don’t be surprised if the Chicago Cubs may want to strengthen their bullpen. As it stands, the Cubs are among the favorites to win the 2016 World Series and may want to bolster their roster a bit more. The Yankees may also look to add some younger talent to an aging roster, whether it be to their bats or bullpen.
The good news for all teams is they have that one extra day this particular season in order to get those deals finalized. The trade deadline normally falls on July 31st, so it will give management at least an extra day on the calendar to make moves.
