Identifying the top high salary and value shortstop plays from around Major League Baseball for your July 15 DraftKings lineup.
Our goal is to help you win DraftKings contests with consistently strong lineups. To accomplish that, we’ll be highlighting some higher salary players worth paying up for, and some value picks that will help you save salary in key areas. These picks are specifically for DraftKings lineups, so all references to prices and fantasy points are based on DK figures.
As always, be sure to double-check final MLB lineups and monitor weather situations before locking in your DFS lineups.
High Salary
Aledmys Diaz, Cardinals (5,000): Many of the top shortstops on Friday’s slate (Eduardo Nunez, Corey Seager, Jonathan Villar) have tough matchups, so Diaz stands out. The talented rookie is hitting an even .300 against left-handers this season, making him a viable play against Miami Marlins southpaw Wei-Yin Chen (5-3, 4.83 ERA). If you’re paying up at shortstop, Diaz is the pick, though Friday offers better options for less.
Danny Espinosa, Nationals (4,500): The 29-year-old is enjoying a career season for Washington. Espinosa is on pace to set new career highs in home runs and RBIs, and he could add to those totals Friday against struggling Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Francisco Liriano (5-8, 5.15 ERA). Espinosa is hitting .275 with a .638 slugging percentage against southpaws this season.
High Value
Brad Miller, Rays (3,800): Miller should almost always be considered a GPP-only play. He just doesn’t hit consistently enough (.241) to warrant cash play. However, when he does hit, it has a good chance of leaving the ballpark. Only six shortstops have more than Miller’s 14 home runs, and he could add to that total Friday against Baltimore Orioles righty Yovani Gallardo (3-1, 5.82 ERA).
Jose Reyes, Mets (3,500): Reyes has made an immediate impact in his second stint with New York, totaling six hits (including three home runs) through his first six games. Expect him to stay hot Friday against Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Jeremy Hellickson (6-6, 3.92 ERA). Reyes is 8-for-21 (.381) in his career against Hellickson.
