FanDuel daily picks: Fantasy baseball lineup-July 15
Second Baseman
High-Salary Option: Jose Altuve-Houston Astros (4,100): Two of the best 2B in the Major Leagues face off tonight as the Astros visit Seattle and Altuve takes on Robinson Cano. Altuve is a good play against lefty James Paxton since he is 27-84 (.321) against lefties this season with a .932 OPS and has gone 2-3 in his career against Paxton. Altuve has a 1.182 OPS against the Mariners this season and went 5-12 with a homer and three doubles in the Astros trip to Seattle earlier this season.∗∗∗∗
Mid-Range Option: Jonathan Schoop-Baltimore Orioles (3,800): Schoop is having an impressive breakout season for the O’s and hit .304 in the first half with 14 homers and 52 RBI. He compiled a solid .847 OPS, and will look to keep things rolling headed into the second half.
The O’s open the second half in Tampa where they’ll face Chris Archer and the Rays. Schoop is 4-9 in his career against Archer with a double and a homer making him a nice mid-range option tonight. ∗∗∗
Mid-Range Option: Robinson Cano-Seattle Mariners (3,500): Cano is surprisingly affordable after heading into the break red hot. He went 15-40 (.353) in the ten games he played in July with four doubles, two homers, and four RBI. The reason he may be a little cheaper is a matchup against Doug Fister who has been pitching well, but Cano has had success against him in the past coming into tonight 6-17 (.353) against Fister in his career. Enjoy the discount and get Cano in your lineup tonight. ∗∗∗∗
Mid-Range Option: Dustin Pedroia-Boston Red Sox (3,100): Another well-known name that seems underpriced to me is Dustin Pedroia. Pedey rolled into the All Star break with a .806 OPS and a .304 batting average after starting the month 12-40 (.300) with a double and a homer. As the Sox visit New York tonight, he does have a tricky matchup against Michael Pineda (3-16, .188 in his career), but I still think he’ll produce nice numbers for this minimal investment.∗∗∗
High Value Option: Brandon Phillips-Cincinnati Reds (2,700): Phillips is playing through a hairline fracture in his hand, but he had a nice week leading up tot he All Star break in which he went 8-19 (.421) with a double and four RBI. He usually hits well against the Brewers and especially tonight’s starter Matt Garza (10-29, .345 in his career). He’s a nice value playing at home for under 3K, so give him a look if you can’t afford the names higher on this list. ∗∗∗∗
High Value Option: Cesar Hernandez-Philadelphia Phillies (2,500): Hernandez has been swinging a hot bat for the Phillies who had a bit of momentum before the break and were definitely playing much better than early in the season. Hernandez started July 16-39 (.410) to raise his average to .291 on the season. He doesn’t offer a ton of power, but he still makes sense against Bartolo Colon who he has gone 4-13 (.308) against in his career.∗∗
