For Jim Harbaugh and Michigan football’s season-opening game against Hawaii on September 3, the Wolverines will host a special guest as their honorary captain: Michael Jordan.

It hasn’t taken too long for Jim Harbaugh to put the all-time winningest program in college football history back on the map.

In August of last year, Michigan became the first football team to become a member of the Nike/Jumpman family. To help announce the agreement, Michael Jordan announced that the Wolverines were joining the Jordan family.

To thank Jordan and bring more eyes to the program, Harbaugh made an announcement regarding the honorary captain for the Wolverines’ season opener at home against Hawaii in September.

That’s huge for the Michigan program. Harbaugh led the Wolverines to a 10-3 mark and a bowl victory over the Florida Gators in the Citrus Bowl in his first season as Michigan’s head coach. With publicity like being able to bring in Michael freakin’ Jordan in his back pocket, Harbaugh and the Michigan program will continue to grow and attract some of the best prospects across the nation for many years to come.

As for Jordan, any time he’s in the building, it’s big news. One of Jordan’s most recent public appearances was at the NCAA Men’s National Championship game in Houston back in April when his alma mater — North Carolina (also sponsored by Jordan) — lost in an absolute classic to Villanova.

It’ll be quite a media circus when college football’s most-talked about figure in the last calendar year and the greatest basketball player of all-time get together for the start of Harbaugh’s second season in Ann Arbor in September.

Michigan better come out on top against Hawaii because if not, the Crying Jordan memes will be endless and hysterical.
