Jordan Spieth, the world’s No. 3 player, is in danger of missing the cut at The Open Championship after a double bogey at the “Postage Stamp”; the par-3 8th hole at Royal Troon.

The projected cut line for The Open Championship this week currently sits at +2.

Jordan Spieth is in danger of missing the cut.

After one of the best major tournament runs in recent memory last season that resulted in two wins at the Masters and the U.S. Open, a runner-up finish at the PGA Championship and a top-5 finish at last year’s Open Championship, Spieth became the first player to double bogey the tricky par-3 8th hole during the second round of The Open on Friday.

The hole was just a disaster for Spieth, who hit his pitching wedge off the tee box into one of the three bunkers surrounding No. 8. After his second shot didn’t get up the ridge out of the sand, the ball came back and Spieth would have to hit from the same bunker right of the green.

Spieth’s second shot out of the sand was a good one and left him a reasonable putt for his bogey, but the putt just missed and he dropped to +3 on the day and for the tournament.

Jordan, your thoughts on that double bogey?

It’s been a rough go for Spieth ever since the Masters debacle at the par-3 12th hole. If Spieth somehow misses the cut at Royal Troon this weekend, more struggles on a par-3 will probably be the focal point.

He still has nine holes to play on Friday and sits just a shot below the cut line, so anything can happen, but he’s going to have to get hot and in a hurry on a breezy day in Scotland.
