New Miami Hurricanes head coach Mark Richt is fitting in well in Miami. Here’s a video of him back flipping off a high dive, if you can call it that.

Mark Richt is trying to change the Miami Hurricanes. They suffered for years under the mediocre Al Golden, who seemed to blame everyone but himself for the Hurricane’s failures as a team. Richt has invigorated this Miami roster, and he seems to be taking to the Miami lifestyle fast, as you can see in this video where he attempts a backflip off a high dive.

I’m impressed with Richt’s boldness, but I have to question if this is technically a backflip. In the immortal words of Woody from Toy Story, he wasn’t flying, he was “falling with style”. I expected to see a tuck and get some athleticism, but it seems like Richt strategically used gravity to complete the stunt. The player next to him is holding a GoPro, so we’ll likely get some legit footage in a few hours.

Richt stepped into a difficult job at Miami. They’re located in one the recruiting hotbeds of the nation, they have the pedigree and championship experience, and they just can’t get back to where they were.

Choosing Richt to lead the charge for championships seems strange, because while Richt had a great win/loss record at Georgia, but he only won the SEC outright twice, both times early in his career. He’s been pretty consistent with winning the SEC’s East division, but can’t seem to take it further than that. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how he stacks up in the ACC.
