Report: White Sox calling up 2015 first round pick Carson Fulmer

The 22-year old right-hander was the 8th overall selection and makes the jump from Double-A to the majors.
The Chicago White Sox are about to reach into their farm system once again for one of their top prospects to help them get out of a 22-33 slide after a sizzling 23-10 start. Right-hander Carson Fulmer will get the call to the majors from Double-A Birmingham in just his second professional season, according to a report by the Chicago Tribune.
Fulmer, who was the Pale Hose eighth overall pick in the 2015 June Amateur Draft out of Vanderbilt University, is expected to make his big league debut in Anaheim against the Angels this weekend. He appeared in the MLB Futures Game last Sunday hurling a perfect inning. It is unknown where Fulmer will slide into the Sox rotation as Miguel Gonzalez is scheduled to start tonight in the series opener.
The 22-year old has gone just 4-9 with a 4.76 ERA in 17 starts with the Barons this year and has struck out 90 in 87 innings, however, he has walked 51 and is pitching to a 1.52 WHIP although he has had consecutive solid starts giving up just a pair of runs in 19 innings striking out 22.
Fulmer began the season as the organization’s No. 1 prospect and baseball’s No. 33 in the MLB.com Pipeline. He was thought to be the best starter on a loaded Vanderbilt staff in his final two seasons there and helped the Commodores win the College World Series in 2015 and runner-up the following year. The White Sox are hoping his high 90’s fastball and power curve prove to be a successful combination in the majors.
James Shields was expected to provide a boost to the rotation after being acquired from the Padres, but has gone 2-3 with a 7.68 ERA in seven games.
Chicago is also expected to be adding former MVP Justin Morneau to the roster as the team kicks off the second half of the season.
