The Philadelphia Eagles selected Carson Wentz with the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, but don’t expect him to be playing any time soon.

With the second overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles selected Carson Wentz, a gun-slinging quarterback out of North Dakota State. A year earlier, the Eagles spent big money bringing Sam Bradford to the organization, and he was supposed to be the franchise quarterback of the future.

All mayhem broke loose after Wentz was drafted, as Bradford threatened to hold out until he was traded. Eventually, Bradford made his way back to the Eagles, and is currently full entrenched as the team’s starting quarterback. In fact, Wentz will not even challenge him for time, as the team is expected to make the rookie the third guy on the totem pole.

“Typically, the third quarterback is down,” Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Doug Pederson recently said, via Phillyvoice.com. “It’s hard right now to look down the road, but if we had to play this week, Carson would be down. He’d be the third quarterback. He’d be deactivated. That’s probably the direction we’re heading, I would think is going that route.”

Chase Daniels will be the team’s number two quarterback, as the organization made a big commitment to him in the off-season as well. Daniels signed an enormous contract for a back-up, inking a three-year, $21 million deal.

Both Daniels and Wentz could possibly play a huge role for the Eagles this season, as Bradford has a long history of getting injured. Daniels was a nice insurance policy for the organization, but the clear expectation is for Wentz to develop and be the starter in Philly for years to come.

The Eagles will open their 2016 slate against the Cleveland Browns at home on September 11.
