In what is arguably the best rivalry in Major League soccer, the Portland Timbers hosted the Seattle Sounders at Providence Park. The action got underway fast from the opening whistle as both teams looked to strike first on the scoreboard.

The atmosphere was loud and proud as both Timbers and Sounders fans cheered on their respective teams. It’s a match everyone around the league looked forward to as the rivalry match was shown on FOX. It’s one of a handful of MLS match on the over the air station, but it will most likely be the match filled with the most passion and hate towards their rivals.

FOX did a great job from a broadcast angle for the most part. However, a few times in the first half fans missed key moments due to replays being played. Soccer is unique based on the pace and uncertainty when a key moment could happen, but most of what was being replayed wasn’t worth going away from the live shot. Nonetheless, their crew calling the game and the live studio in Portland shows how great soccer coverage can be when a network takes it seriously.
