WWE’s Heath Slater suffers nasty injury at live event (photo)

On Saturday night, WWE wrestler Heath Slater suffered a nasty gash near his eye that required a large number of stitches.

During a WWE live event on Saturday night in Bangor, Maine, WWE superstar Heath Slater found himself on the receiving end of a nasty cut. The “Social Outcasts” member was in action against Titus O’Neil and ended up getting a bad gash near his right eye, which just so happened to be a few days after he celebrated his birthday.

As seen in the photo that Slater posted via his Twitter account, the longtime member of WWE is sporting one major cut on his face. A report via Fox indicated that the wound required a total of 18 stitches to fix up. It’s obviously not the first time there’s been a nasty injury suffered by a professional wrestler, but it once again speaks to the danger involved in the business. Slater also reminds people via his tweet that while pro wrestling might be considered entertainment and “fake” by some, it’s clearly very physical and real in nature.

For those wondering, the match was eventually stopped due to the injury and Titus was given the victory. A WWE medical professional was on site and the WWE later relayed that “Heath has a six centimeter laceration above his right eye.”

The Slater injury occurred just a few nights ahead of WWE’s big event for the first live Smackdown. During the live episode, a “WWE Draft” will be held where wrestlers will be drafted to either Raw or Smackdown. It’s unknown at this point whether the entire Social Outcasts group will be drafted to one show, or they’ll be split up.

Slater already seems to already have been split up quite a bit, but for his sake hopefully he’ll be good to go in the ring in the foreseeable future!
