Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby made possibly the dumbest comment ever trying to justify the actions of sexual assault by college students and athletes.
In the past few years, the subject of sexual assaults on college campus has been in the spotlight more than ever before, particularly when it comes to those that are either committed by or alleged to be committed by college athletes.
From the high profile allegations against former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston to the ongoing issues at Power Five schools such as Tennessee and Baylor, schools are going out of their way, in many cases, to try and change the culture of thinking that it’s no big deal when a female student is violated against her will.
Well, now we can see where Baylor got the idea that it was okay to assault women, as we read the comments made by the commissioner of the conference they are in, Big 12 leader Bob Bowlsby. During the conference Media Days opener on Monday, Bowlsby made what was, without a doubt, the dumbest comments ever that actually seemed to defend sexual assault:
"It almost goes without saying that when you combine alcohol and drugs and raging hormones and the experiences of 18- 22 years old, it’s probably unrealistic to think that these kinds of things are never going to happen."
If you need a moment to try and realize that someone, especially a person in a position of power, could be that stupid, I don’t blame you. There is no way that anyone with half a brain can think about that subject of sexual assault and make a comment like the one above.
Needless to say, the Twitter world was not forgiving to Bowlsby and lit into him:
Seriously, it’s impossible to come away from 45 minutes of Bob Bowlsby and not be dizzy from the logical circles.

I understand that Bob Bowlsby is kind of a dumbass, but this is ridiculous even for him. https://t.co/VqAh5z4s7U

Honestly, it’s not even that Bowlsby has that opinion because there are a lot of moronic men who believe that it is okay to take advantage of women against their will – some even saying it’s the fault of the woman.
What’s disturbing is that this is the man who is in a position of power over the athletics programs at 10 large universities across the country. Bowlsby has told the female students and athletes at these schools that they don’t matter. There is no way this disgusting man can be in charge of a major conference, or ANY sports league, after those words.
