New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall isn’t feeling good about his quarterback situation, as Ryan Fitzpatrick hasn’t texted him back in two weeks.

While the New York Jets should have a strong team under second-year head coach Todd Bowles in 2016, looking to build off last year’s impressive 10-6 campaign, Jets star wide receiver Brandon Marshall is concerned that his team may not re-sign its starting quarterback from last season, Ryan Fitzpatrick.

On actor/director Michael Rapoport’s ‘I Am Rapoport‘ podcast, Marshall expressed his growing concerns with regards to New York re-signing Fitzpatrick. Marshall said, “I don’t know what’s going on. To be honest, me and Fitz talk everyday, all the time, but I texted him the last two weeks three times and there’s no response. The only thing that he can do to make this right is to say he was on vacation, I was out of the country. It’s not like him. It’s scaring me right now.”

Marshall has been a Pro Bowl caliber player for most of his NFL career, but has yet to make it to the NFL playoffs at any point since entering the league. Without Fitzpatrick in the fold, New York will have by far and away the worst quarterback situation of any team in the NFL in 2016.

In the days leading up to 2016 training camp, the Jets have Geno Smith, Bryce Petty, and rookie Christian Hackenberg on their quarterback depth chart. Smith has been inconsistent, to say the least, in his three-year NFL career. Petty has rarely played at the professional after thriving in a spread offense in college at Baylor. Hackenberg couldn’t complete 60 percent of his passes his last two years at Penn State.

Marshall and fellow Jets wideout Eric Decker are capable enough of receivers to still get their catches in 2016, but if New York wants to make the AFC Playoffs, they’ll need to re-sign Fitzpatrick. Smith, Petty, and even Hackenberg aren’t going to be good enough to get an otherwise good Jets team into the 2016 NFL postseason. It’s totally understandable that Marshall is frightened that his 2015 quarterback may not come back at all in 2016.
