Creating a Team USA Olympics football roster using NFL athletes
3. Running Back: Adrian Peterson
There are a ton of interesting American-born players at the running back position who could be considered here. A young stud like Todd Gurley would certainly make some sense, as would Le’Veon Bell and his ability to impact the game in a variety of ways.
Imagine how much of a weapon Brady would make Bell as a receiver out of the backfield. Add in his ability to run the ball with success, and it is difficult to not make him the choice. That being said, Adrian Peterson is still the best in the game, and his ability to make huge plays with the ball in his hands makes him the choice.
At 31-years-old, Peterson’s career in the NFL could fall off at any point. That being said, there is not a running back in the entire league who consistently impacts a game on the same level as Peterson.
He is an incredibly gifted running back with obvious play-making ability. Peterson’s combination of speed, power, quickness and ball carrier vision is absolutely unrivaled in today’s NFL. He is not the greatest receiver out of the backfield, but there is not a guy who is better suited to simply take the rock and make plays at RB.
Belichick and Team USA could go in many directions here and be just fine, but Peterson is the best running back choice.
With so many choices, this Team USA squad will start three wide receivers, forcing the full back position out of the starting line-up. That being said, Kansas City Chiefs fullback Anthony Sherman would be on the roster, lining up in front of Peterson for Team USA when the need for a fullback arises.
