Identifying the top high salary and value pitcher plays from around Major League Baseball for your July 18 DraftKings lineup.
Our goal is to help you win DraftKings contests with consistently strong lineups. To accomplish that, we’ll be highlighting some higher salary players worth paying up for, and some value picks that will help you save salary in key areas. These picks are specifically for DraftKings lineups, so all references to prices and fantasy points are based on DK figures.
As always, be sure to double-check final MLB lineups and monitor weather situations before locking in your DFS lineups.
High Salary
Jose Fernandez, Marlins (13,800): No surprise here, as Fernandez has 30-point upside every time he takes the mound. The young Marlins ace has reached at least 30 DK points in seven of his last 11 starts. He’ll start Monday on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies. Start Fernandez with confidence.
Chris Sale, White Sox (12,200): Sale was absolutely brutal in his last start against, of all teams, the Atlanta Braves (5 IP, 10 H, 8 ER, 5 K, -2.55 DK points). We’re going to assume that was an outlier. Prior to that dud, Sale had topped topped 20 DK points in his last four starts. Look for him to get back on track Monday on the road against Seattle.
High Value
Jon Lester, Cubs (9,400): Lester’s last two outings have been terrible (-15.00 at the New York Mets, -2.05 at the Pittsburgh Pirates), but the silver lining here is that his price has dropped below 10,000 for the first time since June 1. Lester faces the Mets again Monday, but this time at Wrigley Field. Owners might be scared off after the egg he laid against them on July 4th weekend, but we expect Lester to right the ship.
Brandon Finnegan, Reds (5,400): If you’re rostering either Fernandez or Sale (and on a short slate, you probably have to), Finnegan represents a true bargain-bin option. He’s been all over the map in his last three starts (20.20, -12.75, 7.85 DK points, respectively). On Monday, he draws a home matchup with last-place Atlanta. He’s a viable GPP play at such a low salary.
