DraftKings MLB: Top Bargain plays for July 18
Finding value can be the ever so elusive, “Holy Grail.” Making cap room for pitchers and big bats can make all the difference in a lineup. With a little elbow grease in the research department, I’m hoping to provide a handful of players that could provide critical salary relief for tonight’s DraftKings MLB slate.
It’s a Coors Field night! For better or worse, it’s time to evaluate how to handle another beast of a 12 run over/under. With the game in Colorado tonight, prices are elevated among the top batters for both Tampa Bay and Colorado. There are many premium pitching options that warrant consideration, so we’ll need to search for some cheap value plays.
Carlos Beltran – NYY (OF) – $3200
Beltran and the pin stripes will head down to Camden Yards to take on the O’s. Camden Yards is a hitter friendly park and with his price, and his spot in the order (3rd), Beltran is a quality option.
Justin Upton – DET (OF) – $3300
Detroit has the second highest projected team total on the night at 5.7 projected runs. Upton is a cheap option in the outfield, batting sixth, at home, and in a favorable match up.
Next: Top Value pitching option

Steven Matz – NYM (P) – $8700
Matz has been dealing with significant elbow pain over the last few weeks, but I like him here tonight.
More from FanSided
- Patriots backup plan for DeAndre Hopkins is a shot in the dark
- Raiders: Saquon Barkley’s new contract may have screwed over Josh Jacobs
- Clark Hunt throws cold water on potential Chiefs throwbacks
- Packers: 3 free agency mistakes Brian Gutekunst should already regret
- Cowboys give a masterclass in defense construction with Trevon Diggs extension
He’ll face the Cubbies in Wrigley, so I wouldn’t recommend him in cash games (unless you want to get all the COL bats in), but he could provide solid cap relief at $8700. The Mets have seen some reverse line movement today and the more it continues to move towards the Mets, the more I’ll sprinkle in some of Matz.
*Nola is another cheap, contrarian pitching option tonight. While he may not pick up a, “W” I like this game to stay low scoring.
From now on I’ll be adding guys who would fall into this “Bargin Bin” category, but may not make the lineup. You’ll have to be on top of the lineups as they are released to see if these plays are viable. Also, make sure to see where they fall in the batting order. These picks are based on the assumption that they will take their normal spot in the order. Any downgrade in the batting order could remove any player from this category.

Carlos Gomez ($2500), Josh Reddick ($2700), Adrian Beltre ($2800), Ryan Rua ($2800)
My Top GPP Contrarian Stacks: TEX, CLE, PHI
*Don’t expect these guys to be world-beaters, but rather solid role players for your lineup. Also, remember that each contest type is different and may change the context of these picks.*
