FanDuel daily picks: Fantasy baseball lineup-July 18
Third Baseman
High-Salary Option: Nolan Arenado-Colorado Rockies (4,600): The Rockeis are in Denver this week which usually means Nolan Arenado is both expensive and productive and I expect tonight to be more of the same. Arenado is 13-52 (.250) to start the month but went 4-11 (.364) over the three games this weekend. He has a 1.024 OPS at home at Coors Field and hits well against lefties (.971 OPS compared to .911 against righties). He’ll face southpaw Drew Smyly for the first time in his career tonight and is always a good way to spend your money tonight.∗∗∗∗
Mid-Range Option: Nick Castellanos-Detroit Tigers (3,300): The Tigers got a big game from Castellans yesterday to help them beat the Royals for the second time in their three-game set. Castellanos went 3-4 with two doubles and a triple while totaling 24.2 fantasy points. He has over 20 fantasy points in four of his last nine games and he should produce good numbers again tonight against Ricky Nolasco who he is 4-14 against in his career with two doubles and two homers. Remember, FanDuel scoring rewards extra base hits well, so Castellanos is a nice mid-range option to look at tonight. ∗∗∗∗
Mid-Range Option: Jose Reyes-New York Mets (3,200): Reyes has been huge for the Mets since they reacquired him from the Rockies earlier this season. He has produced at least 15 fantasy points in five of his nine games for New York and comes into tonight with a solid .831 OPS. He should be very familiar with his opponent tonight as he faces Jon Lester, but Lester has gotten the better of him in their past matchups holding Reyes to 3-25 (.120) with a pair of walks and a pair of RBI. Reyes is a nice option at this price given his recent production, but it isn’t a great matchup to use him in tonight in Chicago.∗∗
Mid-Range Option: Martin Prado-Miami Marlins (2,900): Prado has started July 16-44 (.364) with five doubles, five walks, and five runs scored to raise his average on the season to .322. He has been especially productive on the road where he is hitting an impressive .388 with a .906 OPS. Tonight, he and the Fish are in Phily where he’ll face Aaron Nola. Prado is 3-6 in his career against Nola, so look for him to be on base and part of creating runs for the suddenly rolling Marlins offense. He doesn’t have elite power or speed potential like other 3B options, but he is remarkably reliable and hitting near the top of a good lineup in a good matchup.∗∗∗
High-Value Option: Ryan Schimpf-San Diego Padres (2,200): Schimpf collected multiple hits in each of the last two games going 2-3 in each game against the Giants lifting his average to .227 in his 24 games this year. He started both games at 2B and should continue to get the lion’s share of the playing time there as the left-handed side of the platoon. He could be back in the lineup tonight against Mike Leake in St. Louis and is the cheap flier that I think has the best chance to make an impact at the hot corner tonight. ∗∗
