The Thunder have rescinded the qualifying offer to Dion Waiters, making the young guard an unrestricted free agent now

Though there were certainly many teams around the NBA that lost key players in NBA free agency, there’s no organization that can say they were quite as left-out-to-dry as the Oklahoma City Thunder with Kevin Durant making his way further west to join Stephen Curry and company on the  Golden State Warriors.

Now the Thunder are left picking up the pieces in regards to guys like Russell Westbrook and—to a much lesser degree—someone like Dion Waiters. However, it seems like they’ve made up their minds regarding Dion Waiters.

According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the Thunder rescinded their qualifying offer to Dion Waiters on Monday night, thus making the NBA’s version of an emotional rollercoaster an unrestricted free agent.

Obviously this is a big deal just to see this type of thing happen to Waiters or anyone at this point in NBA free agency. Waiters was considered one of the most intriguing players on the market regardless and now he’s even more intriguing given that the Thunder can’t match any offer sheet he signs.

We’re obviously going to get a mad dash to try and sign Dion Waiters around the league here in mid-July, but the question will be who is willing to take a shot on the enigmatic guard or if they’ll shy away.
