Best Vine from every Top-10 draft pick at NBA Summer League
By John Bauman
NBA Summer League is an important chance for the NBA’s younger population to develop, but it’s also a chance for some of the top picks in the 2016 NBA Draft to showcase their talents in front of fans for the first time in an NBA uniform.
Upside & Motor collected the top play — saved by the internet in Vine form — for the first 10 picks in the 2016 NBA Draft. We start with the first overall pick in the draft, Ben Simmons.
Ben Simmons, Philadelphia 76ers
There were so many to choose from for Ben Simmons. It seemed like every night on Twitter there was a new Vine of another great pass from the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. It felt like his best Vine of the summer had to be an assist then, and the final pick was a good one — a nasty no-look assist against the Lakers.
Sixers fans have to be hoping they will see a lot of that next season.
Brandon Ingram, Los Angeles Lakers
When I think of Brandon Ingram, I don’t nesseciarly think of his defense first. However, Ingram flashed his length and shot blocking ability here with a nasty block against the Pelicans.
My favorite part of this Vine is how hard the ball is blocked. Also, the ball flies off the screen and we can’t see where it lands. It could have landed in the second deck, for all we know.
Jaylen Brown, Boston Celtics
Jaylen Brown has his first poster from the NBA over 7’2″ Mavs defender Satnam Singh, who had no hope of slowing Brown down on this play.
Brown also had a couple nice Vines of steals and dunks. Looks like the Celtics backcourt added yet another lockdown defender and amazing athlete.
Dragan Bender, Phoenix Suns
The key to this Vine is that Dragan Bender is 7’1″, yet he’s making moves, dribbling and finishing, that some guards can’t make. Look at the hesitation dribble that sheds the defender and the great finish with those long arms.
Kris Dunn, Minnesota Timberwolves

You can make the case that this is the Vine of the summer. Kris Dunn straight up disrespects the Nuggets defender on this play.
Dunn was a highlight machine all summer long. It’s worth spending some time checking out more Kris Dunn Vines over the summer. I think the Timberwolves got a good one.
Buddy Hield, New Orleans Pelicans

We know Buddy can shoot from his time at Oklahoma, but this Vine shows off an NBA-ready move from Mr. Hield.
Jamal Murray, Denver Nuggets
Jamal Murray joins Kris Dunn on the NBA’s most wanted list of the summer. The crime for both rookies? Breaking ankles.
Murray claims he’s a point guard again and again in interviews, and he’s been backing up those statement by flashing some really nice ball handling and passing throughout the summer.
Marquese Chriss, Phoenix Suns
This is a big-time move from Marquese Chriss. That poor Portland defender had no hope once Chriss entered the spin cycle.
Phoenix knew they were getting a raw prospect in Chriss, and that rawness showed at times over the summer. But they also got an incredible athlete that could really develop into someone special with time.
Jakob Poeltl, Toronto Raptors
Poeltl’s Vine is less flashy and more old-school than everyone else’s Vine, but it is just as impressive. That amount of skill level and footwork is hard to find sometimes in NBA veterans, but Poeltl already has a few moves down as a 20-year-old rookie.
Toronto fans are hoping the skill Poeltl flashed over the summer can translate come time for the regular season this fall.
Thon Maker, Milwaukee Bucks
Last but not least, Thon Maker. I picked this Vine not only because of Maker’s incredible shot but because I couldn’t resist adding in Mark Cuban’s savage comment about Maker’s age.
Maker is another guy who is worth watching on YouTube a little bit. I can’t wait to see what he can do for the Bucks this fall.
That’s 10 Vines for the Top-10 draft picks! Let us know in the comments section below what your favorite Vine of the summer was.
