3. Tradition

The Summer Olympics are better than the Winter games because they have a tradition that cannot be rivaled. The Winter Olympics have been a nice compliment to the Summer Games, but the legacies of the two games cannot be compared.

During the Ancient Olympics Games, they actually had to come up with an Olympic Truce. Lots of times, the games were interrupted by wars, so the city-state of Elis called for a ceasefire, allowing fans and athletes to attend the Olympics safely.

When the originators of the Olympics created the event, they did not have Winter sports in mind. In fact, the Summer Olympics from over 100 years ago look a lot like today’s games in many respects. What began as only foot races, evolved in a multi-sport event, and has only gotten better over the year.

Plenty of new events have been added over the years, but when most people think of the Olympics, they still think of those original foot races.

The Winter Games have done a nice job creating their own traditions, but for many die-hard Olympics fans, the Winter games are just a supplemental Olympics. The traditions of the Ancient Games still are alive and well today, and though the games are forever changing, the past will always be present.
