15. More events

One of the biggest distinct differences of the Summer and Winter Olympics is the fact that there are much more events during the Summer Games. Since the beginning of each Olympics, the Summer Games have had at least three times the amount of events, and it makes for a better product.

During the 2014 Sochi Olympics in Russia, there were 98 events played in seven sports. In comparison, the 2016 Rio Olympics are slated to have 306 events played in 28 sports, offering fans a much wider variety of sports.

The more the merrier is not always the case, but in the case of the Olympics, it gives the Summer Games a clear advantage over the Winter Games. Having more events is not only better for the fans, but also for the athletes, who have more opportunities to find their way onto an Olympic roster.

It would be very hard for the Winter Games to add more events, as they only have so much they can do. Despite adding 12 events to the 2014 Sochi Olympics, the Winter Games are still a ways away from the Summer Games.

The Summer Games added kitesurfing to the slate for 2016 Rio Olympics, and it should be very interesting as it is a relatively new sport. In addition, they have golf and rugby returning to the Olympics, which should bring the interest of millions more people to the Games.
