14. Variety of sports

Not only are there more events over more sports in the Summer Games than the Winter Games, but it is the variety of sports that really sets them apart. Most of the Winter events are based on skiing, ice skating, or snowboarding, leaving little to the imagination.

In contrast, the variety of sports in the Summer Games enables even a novice sports fan to be able to relate to at least one event. Most people spend at least some time in a pool, or on a field, during their lifetime, so they can better appreciate the Summer Games sports.

The best part of the Summer Games is it incorporates team and individual sports so well. Major sports are represented, like boxing, soccer, and basketball, and even golf. Aside from those major sports, events like track and field, gymnastics, and weightlifting give the Summer Olympics a smorgasbord of watchable competition.

The Summer Games also have events that are just down right fun to watch. Events like beach volleyball, table tennis, and trampoline are basically grown-up versions of games people played in their backyards as kids, and that can bring out the sports fan in anyone.

There are only so many times you can see what looks like the same jump from multiple skiers, before realizing the Summer Games are way better entertainment.
