10. Some countries cannot train for Winter Olympics

A key factor in countries not being in the Winter Games is the fact that they cannot train for certain events. In countries in Africa, or the Middle East, it would be nearly impossible to train for events like snowboarding or skiing. The bottom line is they do not have the climate for these events, so therefore, their athletes do not participate.

The Summer Games are much more friendly to climate zones, as there are plenty of events that any country can compete in. Athletes from the Southern hemisphere can train all year-long for events like track and field, basketball, and soccer, giving them the same advantage as countries from the north.

Arguably the best Olympics movie of all-time is “Cool Runnings,” which is the story of the Jamaican Bobsled team’s rise to appear in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada. However, while it is a true story, the storyline is mostly made up. In fact, in order to compete in the games, coaches who were recruited from the U.S. and Austria helped teach the team how to bobsled, and they had to train in Austria, and Lake Placid, N.Y.

Without the ability to train in the same conditions as the events will be played in, it is nearly impossible for hot-climate countries to really make any noise in the Winter Games. This fact takes some of the luster off of the Winter Olympics and is another reason why the Summer Games are that much better.
