9. Location of the games

Location, location, location.

The location of the Summer Games are far superior to the location of the Winter Games, and they are played in some of the most beautiful places in the world. Host cities set up incredible Olympic villages, and the entire country rallies around the event. While this is also the case in the Winter Olympics, the quality of location is not even close.

The last four Summer Games have been played in absolutely beautiful countries, and for the most part, these are vacation destinations. Whether it is London, England (2012), Beijing, China (2008), Athens, Greece (2004), or Sydney, Australia (2000), the location of the Summer Games makes the event that much more special.

In contrast, the last Winter Olympics were held in Sochi, Russia, which is just cold. Most people would have Russia pretty far down on their list of places to go if they had the money to take a trip in the winter. However, a summer trip to London would be quite alright.

Attending any Olympics would be a special experience, but being able to walk around and not have to wear a Parka would make the experience that much better. The Summer Games have the advantage of being held in hotter months, and that gives them more of a pool of places to choose from to host.
