After just three rehab starts at Triple-A, Pederson declared fit to return to big club.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced in a release today that they have reinstated centerfielder Joc Pederson from the 15-day disabled list. The 24-year-old has missed 15 games with a sprained right AC joint after crashing into the outfield wall in a game against the Brewers at Miller Field in Milwaukee on June 28.
In his three rehab starts for the Oklahoma City Dodgers, Pederson had .625/.750/.625 splits going 5-for-8 with four walks. Before the injury he was on quite a roll, going 16-for-57 (.281) with four doubles, five homers and seven RBI along with nine runs scored in 18 games. Overall he hit .236/.328/.476 with 16 doubles, 13 homers, which is third most on the team, and 33 RBI.
While Pederson was out, the Dodgers went with Trayce Thompson, but he also landed on the disabled list as well. Since the break, Los Angeles has had three different players –Scott Van Slyke, Andrew Toles and Yasiel Puig– patrol center.
Pederson will help a struggling Dodgers club that has gone just 5-5 over their last ten games and are trailing the NL West-leading Giants by 5.5 games.
The Dodgers also announced three other moves, recalling LHP Luis Avilan from Triple-A. Pederson and Avilan will take the place of RHP Casey Fien (retroactive to July 17) and LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu (retroactive to July 9) who were both placed on the 15-day DL.
