After their dominating performance in Super Bowl 50, Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward has “no ceiling” for what the Broncos can do moving forward.

In terms of dominant defensive performances in a single season, few rank above last year’s Denver Broncos unit.

Peyton Manning got the glory of winning a second Super Bowl in his farewell season, but that second ring wouldn’t be on Manning’s finger without one of the best defensive performances in the 50-year history of the Super Bowl, led by Super Bowl MVP Von Miller.

A key member of that defense was safety T.J. Ward and his huge supply of confidence when he spoke about the Broncos at a recent celebrity golf tournament for charity that he hosted.

When he was asked how good the Broncos defense could continue to be after their Super Bowl 50 triumph over NFL MVP Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers, Ward replied, via The Denver Post, “There is no ceiling.”

Ward continued on and said, “We can be as good as we want to be. We can become the best defense of all time. That’s what we’re working toward.”

That’s a bold claim, but how bold is it really?

In recent years, the likes of the 2000 Baltimore Ravens, the 2003 Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the 2013 Seattle Seahawks are really the only teams that have a defense in the same conversation as the Broncos defense of last year.

The Broncos not only had size all over the field in 2015-16, but their overall speed as a defense didn’t seem real. It looked like watching a Madden video game defense playing against a computer on Rookie.

Ward’s confident statement about being the best of all-time may seem like a dose of overconfidence from a reigning Super Bowl champion, but when you step back and take a look at it, he might not be that far off.
