The most infamous golfer of all-time will miss yet another major this year.
It looks like we’re going to have to wait longer to see Tiger Woods play, because he won’t be headed to the PGA Tournament next week. According to USA Today Sports, it’s the first time Tiger Woods will miss all four majors in his 20-year career. Woods has won 14 majors in his time.
Woods has been recovering from two back surgeries for the past year, and hasn’t played at all since the Wyndham Championship in August 2015. While it’s not a surprise that Woods is slow to come back after multiple back surgeries, one would think that after a year he would be able to play somewhat. He says that he’s played 18 holes in back to back days, but he’s still sore all the time.
Tiger Woods was arguably one of the most dominant athletes of the early 2000’s. He was golf’s top earner 10 times since 2002 until an adultery scandal sidetracked his career. He lost most of his sponsors and the respect of many worldwide, and has been working to earn it back ever since.
Woods is remembered for his infidelities, but he had an inarguable influence on modern golf. His long-drive style and clutch putting has always been his calling card, even though his skills might have faded with age. We might be getting closer to the end of Tiger Woods’s illustrious career as news of missing play due to injuries continue to pour in.
