Bryce Harper launched a ridiculous shot into third deck at Nationals Park  against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals hit a baseball into the third deck at Nationals Park in the bottom of the first inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It traveled so far you could barely make out its landing as it came down among fans who were not prepared to deal with a ball hit into their section. Take a look:

Is that good?

This is one of those home runs where you worry about the afflicted pitcher’s mental health. This is one of those home runs where you would be forgiven if you initially thought it was the longest blast of all time. This is one of those home runs that makes fans miss the next two batters because they are staring at where it landed with their mouths hanging open.

According to Statcast, it traveled 451 feet, good for Harper’s longest of the year. Had it not taken the trajectory of the St. Louis Arch, there is no telling how far it would have flown. If Harper hit it in a line drive, it may have been shot down for entering White House airspace.

Plenty of players have hit home runs farther this season — Giancarlo Stanton hit one 490 feet because of course he did — but the height and angle  of this homer added a bit of majesty and elegance to an act of sheer power.
