Carmelo Anthony says the Knicks had a chance to sign Dwyane Wade.
The New York Knicks have made many moves this off-season. From trading for Derrick Rose to signing Joakim Noah and Courtney Lee, the Knicks will certainly be in the playoff discussion next season in the Eastern Conference.
The three off-season moves off adding Rose, Noah and Lee only solidify the rest of the Knicks starting lineup with Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis already in the fold at small and power forward respectively.
Though, one top name that they were rumored to be interested in but missed on was Dwyane Wade. Dwyane Wade ultimately decided to join the Chicago Bulls after 13 great seasons with the Miami Heat.
Carmelo Anthony believes that New York Knicks had a chance to sign Dwyane Wade. Though, the reason that they didn’t was due to timing. According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, with regards to the Knicks landing Dwyane Wade, Carmelo said “If it was 2 days earlier we probably would have had D-Wade.”
We can only wonder how much truth it is to that statement. As the competition for Wade’s services seemed to come down to a three way competition between the Denver Nuggets, Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls.
Though if Wade would have signed in New York it would have been another situation of three ball-dominant players in the starting lineup as Wade will see in Chicago. As Wade would have joined ball dominant players Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose in New York and that may have not been an ideal situation.
