Identifying the top high salary and value pitcher plays from around Major League Baseball for your July 20 DraftKings lineup.
Our goal is to help you win DraftKings contests with consistently strong lineups. To accomplish that, we’ll be highlighting some higher salary players worth paying up for, and some value picks that will help you save salary in key areas. These picks are specifically for DraftKings lineups, so all references to prices and fantasy points are based on DK figures.
As always, be sure to double-check final MLB lineups and monitor weather situations before locking in your DFS lineups.
High Salary
Kyle Hendricks, Cubs (10,200): Justin Verlander (11,000) pitched on the early slate, while Drew Pomeranz (10,600) and Carlos Carrasco (10,400) had unattractive matchups. That leaves us with Hendricks as the top high-salary pitcher. He’s reached at least 17 DK points in each of his last four starts and shown moderate strikeout potential. He’s a solid option on Wednesday.
Felix Hernandez, Mariners (10,100): He’s back! After a lengthy stint on the disabled list due to a calf strain, “King Felix” is set to return Wednesday at home against the Chicago White Sox. If you’ve followed professional baseball for the last 10 years, you surely know about Hernandez. When healthy, he’s one of the game’s best pitchers. Enjoy him at this price point because it’s likely to go up in future starts.
High Value
Jaime Garcia, Cardinals (7,900): Garcia has been hit-or-miss recently, so there’s some risk involved with this pick. However, the upside is real, considering the San Diego Padres’ penchant for striking out. San Diego ranks third in the majors with 854 strikeouts. Garcia usually averages around five or six Ks, but he could exceed that on Wednesday.
Gio Gonzalez, Nationals (7,300): Like Garcia, Gonzalez has been up-and-down lately, but he always has 20-fantasy point upside when he takes the mound. Gonzalez has only struck out seven combined batters over his last two starts. If he improves in that area, his value will grow. For a sub-8,000 price, Gonzalez is worth a look.
