DraftKings Late MLB Picks For July 20

Seven more games are on tap for the evening, which makes it the same size as the early one. There were some good options in the afternoon. What about tonight? There is only one pitcher that costs more than $10,000, compared to four in the afternoon. Who are the great mid-range options?

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Best Bets:

Gio Gonzalez ($7,300): Gio has absolutely dominated the Dodgers in his career. They are hitting a pathetic .151 off of him in 106 at bats with just four extra base hits (all doubles), eight runs, and 27 strikeouts. He is by far the best option of the night based on past stats.

Honorable Mention:

Jeremy Hellickson ($7,500): Hellickson has plenty of experience against the Marlins from his days with the Rays in interleague play. The Fish are only hitting .218 off of him in 124 at bats with three homers and nine RBI. They have only struck out 18 times, but Hellickson isn’t known as a strikeout pitcher anyway. He could be a sneaky pick for solid points, though since this is a light slate, he will be more widely used than usual.

Dark Horses:

Martin Perez ($4,000): You want a sleeper play? This is it. Santiago has been bombed by the Rangers, and the Angels are hitting just .225 against Perez in 89 at bats with only two extra base hits (both triples) and seven RBI. Four of those belong to C.J. Cron, who is on the DL. He only has 15 strikeouts which limits his upside, but are you really going to complain about that at this price?

Matt Cain ($4,000): There are a lot of things working against Cain here. This is his first start off of the disabled list, meaning he could be on a pitch count. He also was not pitching well before landing on the shelf, going 1-5 with a 5.34 ERA. And, well, he is at Fenway Park. Then again, the Red Sox have only hit .232 against Cain in 138 at bats with three homers, ten runs, and 26 strikeouts. How brave are you?

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Rougned Odor ($4,200) is 11-23(.478) with two walks, three doubles, a homer, and five RBI off of Hector Santiago. Ryan Rua ($3,200) is 5-11(.455) with a double, a homer, and two RBI. Adrian Beltre ($3,700) is 9-36(.250), but he has six walks, four doubles, and three solo home runs. Ian Desmond ($4,300) is 3-9 with a double and a RBI off of Santiago so far. Nomar Mazara ($3,300) is 2-5 with a solo homer. Prince Fielder ($2,100) is 9-36 with four walks, a double, and two RBI. Robinson Chirinos ($2,800) is 2-8 with a double, a homer, and three RBI against Santiago. He also homered twice yesterday! Enjoy this Texas-sized stack tonight!

Drew Pomeranz will be making his first American League start against a familiar foe: the San Francisco Giants. The Giants have hit him well, but it is mostly just two players. Buster Posey ($4,500) is 6-13(.462) with two walks, two homers, and three RBI against Drew Pomeranz. Jarrett Parker ($2,900) only has one at bat against Pomeranz. He hit a two run home run. At least Pomeranz wont have to face Hunter Pence. Pence has four homers and eight RBI against him.

You may want to stack against Wei-Yin Chen. Tommy Joseph ($3,600) is a perfect 3-3 with a solo homer against Chen. Peter Bourjos ($2,800) is 3-6 with two walks, a double, and three RBI. Maikel Franco ($3,800) is only 2-9, but he has a double, a homer, and two RBI. Odubel Herrera ($3,000) is 3-6, but he has no counting stats off of Chen.

Bud Norris has been solid this year, but the Nationals has hit him well. Stephen Drew ($2,700) could be an absolute steal if he gets the start. Drew is 9-25(.360) with six walks, three doubles, a triple, a homer, and four RBI against Norris. Daniel Murphy ($4,200) is 6-18 with two homers and five RBI. Wilson Ramos ($3,600) is 9-19(.474) with a homer and four RBI off Norris. At least Norris dodges Ryan Zimmerman, who has three homers and ten RBI off of him.

Carlos Beltran ($3,700) is 6-25(.240) with four walks, a homer, and two RBI off of Yovani Gallardo. Starlin Castro ($3,200) is 16-41(.390) with two walks, three doubles, and a RBI. Jacoby Ellsbury ($4,100) is 4-10 with a double, a triple, and two RBI against Gallardo. Chase Headley ($3,700) is 9-25(.360) with five walks, a homer, and three RBI. Brian McCann ($4,200) is 6-23(.261) with four walks, two doubles, a homer, and four RBI against Gallardo.

Turnabout is fair play, so you can stack against Michael Pineda as well. Chris Davis ($3,600) is only 4-18(.222) off of Pineda, but he has a walk, a double, two homers, and five RBI. J.J. Hardy ($3,000) is 7-15(.467) with a walk, three homers, and four RBI. Adam Jones ($3,900) is 7-23(.304) with two doubles, a homer, and five RBI. Manny Machado ($3,600) is 5-13(.385) with a walk, a double, and two driven in. Jonathan Schoop ($4,100) is only 2-10, but he has a double, a homer, and four RBI against Pineda.

Aaron Hill ($3,800) is 9-32(.281) with a double, two triples, a homer, and three RBI against Matt Cain. Hanley Ramirez ($3,900) is 13-47(.277) with six walks, three doubles, two homers, and five driven in against Cain.
