Kobe Bryant wrote a letter to his younger self.
Los Angeles Lakers lifer, Kobe Bryant, has called it quits after an astonishing 20 seasons in the NBA. Bryant should go down as arguably the greatest Laker ever, which says a lot with all the stars that have worn a Lakers jersey.
With this being the first time in 20 years that Bryant won’t be donning purple and yellow, it will be extremely weird not only for the Lakers’ franchise but for Kobe himself,as he’s been in the NBA for more than half of his life.
Bryant is a person that calls his own self “antisocial.” So one of the ways that Kobe has dealt with being away from the game that he cherishes, is by talking to his younger self, sort of say.
Retired and 37 years old, Bryant wrote a letter to his 17 year-old self. The letter mainly talks about the challenge that will be ahead with regards to the money he’ll make and being able to not allow himself to take pride in seeing his family prosper off of his wealth. Instead Kobe wants his family to grow and prosper on their own merit.
Retired Kobe tells younger Kobe that “You will come to understand that you were taking care of them because it made YOU feel good, it made YOU happy to see them smiling and without a care in the world — and that was extremely selfish of you.”
As athletes feel that it is their duty to take care of their family and some instances it causes them to go broke. Though, at least for Kobe sake, he’s in the position to give good advice on this subject matter as evidenced by his letter.
