MLB Trade Deadline: 5 best spots for Andrew Cashner
Here are five teams that would be a perfect fit for San Diego Padres starting pitcher Andrew Cashner and should try to trade for him.
The San Diego Padres have had an extremely rough season. Perhaps no Padres pitcher has had a rougher season than starting pitcher Andrew Cashner. Cashner was expected to bounce back in 2016 after a rough 2015 because while his 2015 ERA was a career high (as a starter) 4.34, his FIP was still a very reasonable 3.85. That hasn’t happened in 2016.
Not only has Cashner’s ERA ballooned to 5.05, his FIP is a career-high 5.12 in 14 starts. In 14 starts, Cashner has only pitched in 67 2/3 innings. That’s not even averaging five innings a start. The Padres were hoping to cash in big time by trading Cashner at the 2016 MLB trade deadline. While they will still most likely trade him by the trade deadline, it certainly won’t be for the haul that the Padres envisioned.
Despite Cashner’s struggles, he’s still one of the most talented starting pitchers on the market. That’s more telling of the market than of Cashner. Multiple contenders are in desperate need of starting pitching so there will still be a market for Cashner.
Here are the five most ideal spots for Andrew Cashner.
