2. Toronto Blue Jays

Until recently, the Toronto Blue Jays were one of the very few contenders who didn’t really need an upgrade in their rotation. That changed with the injury to Marco Estrada. The struggles of Marcus Stroman have compounded the issue. With ground to make up in the American League East Division race and with the Astros quickly climbing up the ladder hoping to grab their spot, the Blue Jays need to address these concerns right now by trading for Andrew Cashner.

Andrew Cashner could be a short-term replacement for Estrada in the rotation and compete with Stroman for the final rotation spot. Stroman could be better off in the bullpen, which has been a bit of a weakness for the Blue Jays. With his electrifying stuff, he wouldn’t need to overthink things on the mound as a relief pitcher. That seems to be his biggest issue as a starting pitcher.

Even if Cashner is in the bullpen, perhaps that would help them. Cashner could act as a very good long relief pitcher or spot starter. The issue with Cashner has never been his stuff. With his fastball and breaking ball combo, that could be all he needs to be an effective relief pitcher.
