Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, an NBA legend who has been outspoken on certain political issues, will speak at next week’s Democratic National Convention.
This week, thousands have gathered in Cleveland, Ohio for the Republican National Convention to hear speeches from everyone from religious leaders to sports figures, including UFC President Dana White and former college football coach turned drunk cookie making elf, Lou Holtz.
Next week, it will be the Democratic Party’s turn as they hold their national convention in Philadelphia, PA. Not to be outdone, the Dems will have their own lineup of Hollywood stars and professional athletes, including one of the best to ever play in the NBA, legendary star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar:
Honored to be supporting @HillaryClinton @DemConvention in Philly next Thursday. Text KAJ to 47246 to keep up with me while I'm there.
— Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (@kaj33) July 20, 2016
Abdul-Jabbar, who converted to the Muslim faith during his time in the NBA, has been an outspoken critic of the Republican nominee, Donald Trump, and has also served as a columnist on a variety of political subjects in recent years.
Another former basketball player who will be stepping up to the stage is Jason Collins, who was the first openly gay player in the NBA:
Honored to support @HillaryClinton & excited to announce that @jarronctwin & I will be speaking at the @DemConvention in Philadelphia! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
— Jason Collins (@jasoncollins98) July 20, 2016
The DNC will kick off on Monday, with other speakers including President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle (who will be delivering another speech that Trump’s wife can steal later) all leading up to the nomination of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday.
