According to ESPN, The South Florida men’s basketball team is being investigated for academic fraud.

The South Florida Bulls aren’t the best at basketball, but it seems like they aren’t the best in the classroom either. A report from ESPN’s Jeff Goodman states that the Men’s Basketball program at South Florida is being investigated for academic fraud.

This might mean extreme sanctions for an already struggling basketball team.

The Bulls went 7-24 last year, and are 16-47 in two years under head coach Orlando Antigua, who came over after spending the previous few years under the tutelage of John Calipari. Oliver Antigua, Orlando’s brother and assistant coach, has not been allowed to go out on the recruiting trail this month.

If this investigation sticks, it could be a death blow for the already struggling USF program. The Bulls had enjoyed periods of relative success under Stan Heath in the Big East conference, but have struggled ever since the move to the American Athletic Conference. Orlando Antigua is a good coach, but with the sanctions looming he might not have much of a chance to prove how good he really is.

Academic fraud is a very serious offense. It could mean a system of cheating, a few professors who just give athletes good grades and get them out of their classrooms, or coaches physically demanding their athletes pass certain classes. No matter what happens, it’s hard to imaging sanctions not coming down on the Bulls.
