MLB Trade Deadline: 5 best trades for Tyson Ross
3. Kansas City Royals
The Royals also may be a case where the team is intending on using Ross primarily for what he can bring them next year. They are slipping out of playoff contention, and everybody who could get hurt, has gotten hurt. That said, on paper, this is still a roster with a window to win now.
Their biggest weakness coming into the season was going to be their rotation and it got them exposed this year. Ian Kennedy and Danny Duffy have really been the only two names that have been consistent for them. Edinson Volquez and Kris Medlen are free agents this offseason, and unless they absolutely had to, there is no need to go out and re-sign either pitcher.
Ross would serve as an upgrade for what either has provided. Due to his injury, he may come a bit cheaper than expected. The Royals could focus on easing him into action this year with their eyes set on a healthy team having a potential ace next to Kennedy and Duffy next season.
Ross can provide whiffs, but he has also been successful at keeping the ball in the park. The Royals have a great defense that should fit perfectly with his abilities, and while he is shifting leagues it may be an upgrade overall in the change of scenery. If the Royals were to be potential buyers this offseason, it would be a move like this to try to acquire him.
