EA Sports appeared to unveil the new Manchester United 2016-17 home kit on their FIFA site.

Uh oh.

Having any dealings at all with a new Manchester United kit appears to be a bit dangerous. In 2012, a Chevrolet executive was fired after agreeing to a $300 million sponsorship deal with the Red Devils. (Can you imagine not gaining board approval before pulling the trigger on a deal that massive?)

Now, a few more heads may roll as EA Sports posted a picture on their FIFA site of Anthony Martial in the yet to be unveiled 2016-17 Manchester United home kit. Take a look:

Oops.

At least the new kit looks great, right?

The mistake was apparently immediately corrected. Upon visiting the features page of the site you will now see Martial in last year’s home Manchester United kit.

Realistically, the extra publicity generated by the “controversy” will probably be a positive to both Manchester United and the FIFA makers. There is such a thing as bad publicity, but this surely doesn’t qualify as bad.

A big soccer club’s new jersey being leaked is about as shocking as Luis Suarez doing something insane on or around a soccer pitch.

Coupled with the news of Marco Reus being selected as the cover athlete for FIFA 17, this “mistake” will only serve to pique the interest of soccer fans and gamers alike. But EA may still need a fall guy as Manchester United cannot be pleased at losing control of such a huge reveal.

If you happen to be a EA Sports web manager it would probably be best to keep your head on a swivel over the next week or so, no matter how much of a net positive this leak proves to be.
