Kevin Durant supports NBA’s decision to move All-Star Game
By Matt Couden
A recent tweet from Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant showed his approval of the NBA’s decision to move the 2017 All-Star Game out of Charlotte.
On Thursday it was made official that the NBA All-Star Game for 2017 would be moved out of Charlotte. The league had looked to host the game elsewhere due to the controversial anti-LGBT legislation in the state of North Carolina. It apparently found its new host city in New Orleans. Since the league’s decision, various individuals have spoken out, including Golden State Warriors player Kevin Durant.
Durant is already among the many individuals who have spoken up in support of the league’s decision. The latest member of the Warriors roster had been considered a “traitor” or “villain” by many fans and analysts but continues to show he has character. The former NBA MVP is currently representing his country for Team USA which will begin exhibition play in Las Vegas on Friday.
Should he remain healthy, Durant will likely be a member of the All-Star team for the next several seasons. That will also depend on his performance in Golden State, but one would have to think he will still play at a reasonably high level, even if taking a backseat to fellow MVP Stephen Curry.
As for the NBA All-Star game being moved, it’s not surprising to see players quickly in support of the league’s decision. While this isn’t the Charlotte Hornets’ fault, many players are realizing that equality needs to be recognized in the host city for this important annual league game.
