Here are five trades that the Los Angeles Angels should make at the 2016 MLB Trade Deadline as they try to improve their team for the future.
The Los Angeles Angels have had a very disappointing season, to say the least. After many expected them to contend for one of the two wild card spots in the American League, they find themselves battling with the Oakland Athletics to avoid finishing in last place in the American League West. They will enter the trade deadline as sellers as they look to improve their future despite being loath to undergo a full rebuild.
Despite their terrible season, they still have some talent that they can build around. Mike Trout is a perennial MVP candidate, Matt Shoemaker has been promising after early season struggles and Kyle Cohoun has quietly been a very efficient player for them. At the same time, they certainly have players that they could sell at a high price to quickly improve their team. They could contend as soon as 2017 if they play their cards right.
The Angels don’t need a full rebuild because of their relatively strong core. However, they do need to be aggressive in selling. That is an important balance that should be interesting to watch them try to maintain.
