The Chicago White Sox are going backwards in the AL Central standings, but have no plans to trade Cy Young contender Chris Sale.

Despite the Chicago White Sox sitting in fourth place in the AL Central division and seemingly going nowhere this season, the franchise has no plans to trade away Chris Sale.

Fox Sports MLB insider Ken Rosenthal tweeted out that the Sox received a “king’s ransom” within the last 48 hours and the White Sox kept their answer short and sweet.

Sale has been one of the most dominant arms in the game over his four-plus years as a starter, racking up five All-Star Game appearances and 1,029 strikeouts. He’s finished in the top six of the AL’s Cy Young voting every year since his first full year as a starter in 2012 and appears to the be the current favorite to win it this season.

Despite the struggles after winning 23 of their first 33 games and looking like a legitimate contender, the White Sox would be wise to keep Sale. He’s one of the best pitchers in all of baseball and 6-foot-6 left-handed fireballers like him don’t just grow on trees these days.

The Sox may not move Sale, but they could look to other potential trades, such as moving James Shields, who they traded for after a hot start to sure up the back of the rotation, and first-time All-Star this season Jose Quintana.

Through 94 games, the White Sox are 46-48 and 10 games out of first place in the AL Central. Sale will likely remain in the black and white, but it’s not crazy to think that some other names could come up on the trade radar for the White Sox in the coming days before the trade deadline on August 1.
