Notre Dame unveils Shamrock Series uniforms for Army game (Video)
On November 12, Notre Dame will take on Army in the Irish’s annual Shamrock Series game from San Antonio. Thursday brought the unveiling of this year’s uniform for the Irish.
Every year since 2009, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have played a home-away-from-home game against an opponent in a different city. Along the way, cities like San Antonio, Washington D.C. and Boston have all hosted an Irish football game.
For this upcoming season, the Irish head back to San Antonio to take on the Army Black Knights on Nov. 12 at the Alamodome.
On Thursday, the Irish released the uniform that they will be wearing for that game against Army.
From the look of things, the Irish went with a military-based format in their design with a dimmer gold helmet, an army-like green jersey (with “NOTRE DAME” across the chest in an older font) and gold pants.
With the first glance, the uniforms are … okay. The apparent design motivation goes to a cool cause with the military in mind, but the helmet seems to throw it all off. The more traditional helmet the Irish wear in games probably would have gone with this uniform better than the current one.
It’s become a tradition for the Irish to wear some freshly designed uniforms for their Shamrock Series game each season. Their uniforms from last season’s game at Fenway Park were designed to resemble the stadium’s “Green Monster”; the famous 37-foot wall in left field.
Since 2009, the Irish are 7-0 in the Shamrock Series games, defeating the likes of Washington State, Army, Navy, Miami (FL), Arizona State, Purdue and Boston College.
